The Local Government Management Agency says €2.7m in payments of the Non Principal Private Residence charge were processed over the weekend.
€14.7m was processed over the week to yesterday.
A spokesperson for the LGMA said the total amount collected through the charge now stands at €443.2m.
The spokesperson said the agency did not know how much money was yet to be collected in outstanding charges, as there was no database of properties liable for the tax.
The spokesperson said the LGMA did not have a figure for the numbers of people who had contacted local authorities in recent days who were liable to pay the charge but could not do so.
However, the spokesperson said the agency had heard anecdotally that local authorities had been very busy dealing with queries relating to the charge in recent days.
Last week the agency said people who had genuine difficulty paying the NPPR charge should contact their local authority by last Friday.
The NPPR charge was an annual charge of €200 euro in respect of all residential property not used as the owner's sole or main residence between 2009 to 2013.
It has since been abolished.
Late payment penalties apply to outstanding charges from today.
