A woman has died after falling onto the tracks at Raheny DART station in Dublin this afternon.

The accident happened at around 1.45pm when the woman was waiting for a DART.

The driver of the Pearse to Drogheda service applied the emergency brake but it was not possible to stop the train before it struck the woman.

Services were suspended between Howth Junction and Connolly as the emergency services attended the scene.

The woman was taken to Beaumont Hospital where she later died.
