Newly appointed Minister for Transport Pascal Donohoe has said he is disappointed that the amended Labour Court recommendation on a dispute over a pay cut at Iarnród Éireann has been rejected.

Speaking on RTÉ’s This Week, he said he was conscious that there has been an increase in the number of people using transport.

However, he said the accumulated losses at Iarnród Éireann posed a "great challenge".

Mr Donohoe said he would try to ensure that Iarnród Éireann is affordable now and in the future.
