Two hurt as car plunges from bridge into Co Roscommon river

An elderly couple escaped serious injury when their car plunged from a bridge into a river at Boyle in Co Roscommon.

The accident took place at around 2pm when the car went out of control, smashed through a concrete wall and ended on its side in the river.

Locals and emergency services helped rescue the couple who were taken to hospital.

Their injuries are said to be non life-threatening.
