Transitions Optical is to make 60 people redundant at its manufacturing facility in Tuam, Co Galway.
The company manufactures optical lenses and currently employs 170 people at its facility in the town.
The job losses arise from some of its manufacturing being moved to Asia, according to the company.
Manufacturing for European clients and customer support and administration functions will remain in Tuam.
The company also said those who are made redundant will receive a generous severance package.
