US diplomat Dr Richard Haass is to meet Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore in Dublin on 23 May for talks on the latest developments in Northern Ireland.

Dr Haass chaired all-party talks in the North last year on flags, parades and the legacy of the troubles.

Although the talks broke up on New Year's Eve without an agreement, it is acknowledged that considerable progress was made particularly on issues dealing with the past.

He came to Belfast on the invitation of Northern Ireland First Minister Peter Robinson and Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness.
