Nominations for the local elections have closed.

A total of 1,980 candidates were nominated across the 31 County and City Councils.

Fine Gael has the largest number of candidates with 460, followed by Fianna Fáil on 409. Sinn Féin has 190 candidates in the field, while the Labour Party has 184 candidates up for election.

There are 158 candidates for other parties, including 44 Green Party Candidates and 39 for People Before Profit.

The largest group is those running as non-party, with 579 candidates in that category.

Cork County Council has the largest number of nominated candidates with 114, while Leitrim County Council has the fewest with 31.

Candidates have until noon on Tuesday 6 May to withdraw their nominations if they wish to do so.
