Millions of euro is to be spent upgrading public transport in Cork city and county.

Of the €8.5m to be spent, almost €3m will be used to improve access to Kent rail station, with a new entrance from Horgan's Quay.

Work will start in the summer.

A cycle route between University College Cork and the city centre will also be completed.

The Department of Transport also says that a so-called green route will be completed this year in the Carrigaline area.
