Former chairman of the Central Remedial Clinic Hamilton Goulding has said nothing illegal took place at the clinic.

He said that the board had contractual obligations to outgoing CEO Paul Kiely, which led to a severance package of over €700,000 from donated funds.

Speaking on RTÉ Radio, Mr Goulding said as a gesture Mr Kiely could pay some of the money back.

He called on the public to continue supporting the work done at the clinic.
