New designated bin collection days have been agreed for Dublin city residents as part of new waste bylaws which come into force in the New Year.

Five regions outside the central commercial area will have one day when all waste collection companies will be required to carry out collections.

According to a map published by Dublin City Council, the south will be on Mondays, west on Tuesdays, northwest on Wednesdays, northeast on Thursdays and north on Fridays.

The central commercial district has nightly collections.

Environment Committee Chair Cllr Mary O'Shea (Fine Gael) says the new laws will also require residents to prove how they dispose of their waste and not to leave out bins before 6pm on the day before collection.

The laws are due to come into force from 3 March.
