An Army Bomb Disposal Team has made safe a viable Improvised Explosive Device in Shankill, Co Dublin.

The Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team responded to a request from the gardaí after a suspect device was found at a house in the Woodlands Grove area of Shankill.

A cordon and road closures were put in place for public safety, while a number of nearby houses were evacuated.

The team arrived on scene at 6.45pm and the device was made safe without the need for a controlled explosion.

It was brought to a safe military location for further examination.

The scene was declared safe at 7.15pm.
