An Irish novelist has won a £10,000 (€11,900) literary prize for her debut novel, nine years after it was first rejected by every major publishing house.
Eimear McBride picked up the inaugural Goldsmiths Prize for A Girl Is A Half-formed Thing at an event in London last night.
The novel tells the story of a girl growing up in Ireland and her relationship with her brother
The 37-year-old, who was born to Irish parents in Liverpool, grew up in counties Sligo and Mayo.
