The Medical Council's Fitness to Practise Committee has found a Dublin-based doctor guilty of poor professional performance after she wrongly diagnosed an STD.

Dr Iman Ekky was found to have diagnosed a female patient with the Herpes virus, in circumstances where there was no such clinical evidence.

She also informed the patient of this diagnosis.

The GP, based at Lower Drumcondra Road, was found guilty of eight counts of poor professional performance.

A decision on what sanction, if any, might apply will be decided at a later date by the full Medical Council.

At yesterday's hearing, the patient and her husband said they had been upset at the diagnosis of a sexually transmitted disease given that they were in a monogamous relationship.
