Livestock marts around Ireland are owed hundreds of thousands of euro by a cattle exporting company in the midlands that has gone into receivership, it has been confirmed.
TLT International, based near Mullingar, was buying cattle in Ireland for sale into markets in Italy.
However, 25 workers at the Westmeath company were made redundant this afternoon and the full extent of the losses for farmers and marts could go in to millions of euro.
Farmers and mart directors from all over the country are meeting in Athlone tonight to consider the fallout from the receivership.
