Bord na Móna has announced plans for what it claims will be the largest onshore wind farm development in Europe.
It will be based on peatland and cutaway bogs in the Offaly and north Leinster area.
The €1bn project was launched this afternoon at a new site near Templetuohy in Co Tipperary and will provide wind energy to the export market.
The Clean Energy Hub strategy will bring power directly to the British and European electricity markets.
It will involve a number of wind farms in east Offaly and west Kildare.
