The attendance at the National Ploughing Championships in Co Laois has broken through the 100,000 barrier on one day for the first time in the 70-year history of the competition.

The organisers of the event confirmed this afternoon that 100,000 has passed through the gates in Ratheniska since 7am this morning.

Good weather has boosted the turnout and gardaí said there have been no major difficulties with the traffic plan.

More than 80,000 people attended the opening day of the event yesterday.
