The Irish Dental Association and cancer support groups have urged the public to avail of free examinations by dentists next Wednesday as part of Mouth Cancer Awareness Day.

Around 100 people die from mouth cancer in Ireland every year, despite the fact that it is one of the most treatable forms of cancer.

Over the past three years, 18,000 people have been given free examinations as part of awareness days, and 21 cases of mouth cancer have been diagnosed.

Five hundred dentists from all over the country will be offering free examinations next Wednesday.
