Former Dublin Fianna Fáil TD, Chris Andrews, has joined Sinn Féin.

His decision was announced this afternoon after widespread speculation about the move.

In a statement, Mr Andrews said Ireland required major political and economic change and this could not be delivered by any of the other main political parties or Independents.

"As someone who is advocating change, I must be willing to change personally and politically", he added.
