An American Airlines flight which had to divert to Shannon Airport to make an emergency landing earlier today, will resume its journey to the US tomorrow morning.

The Boeing aircraft departed from Manchester airport this morning en route to Chicago with 212 passengers and crew on board when it requested permission to divert to Shannon because of a technical fault.

It landed safely shortly after 1pm.

Inspections of the plane on the ground at Shannon have now been completed.

A decision has now been taken by American Airlines to resume the flight early tomorrow morning.

All passengers are being accommodated in local hotels.
