Taoiseach Enda Kenny has ruled out reaching an out-of-court settlement with former Waterford Crystal workers on their pension entitlements.
Mr Kenny told the Dáil that a European Court of Justice ruling in their favour had implications for all workers, which needed to be clarified in the courts.
The issue was raised by Waterford Independent TD John Halligan.
He said there was no obstacle to reaching an out-of-court settlement, and urged the Government not to force them into the High and Supreme Courts, and waiting for a result until 2016 or 2017.
Mr Halligan said four-and-a-half years after the workers lost their jobs, they had been "further kicked into the ground" by finding out that their pensions were effectively wiped out.
