The Mater Hospital has confirmed that bones were discovered on the North Circular Road corner of the redevelopment site this afternoon.

Works stopped in the area and gardaí were notified.

During the planning application for the redevelopment, an archaeological report had described finding bones in the area.

The report said they were likely the result of anatomical studies or amputations and likely date from the 19th century.
