Former lobbyist Frank Dunlop has testified that developer Owen O'Callaghan did not know of bribes paid to councillors for the Quarryvale rezoning.
Mr Dunlop is being cross-examined in the Circuit Criminal Court about his allegation that businessman Jim Kennedy did authorise bribes for lands at Carrickmines.
He told the court that Mr O'Callaghan paid him a total of IR£1.8 million for his work on the development that became the Liffey Valley Shopping Centre at Quarryvale.
He said that Mr O'Callaghan did not know that councillors would be bribed.
Michael O'Higgins SC for Mr Kennedy asked him if Mr O'Callaghan was later angry with Mr Dunlop for "shafting" him by contaminating the rezoning motions on Quarryvale and leaving him open to an action by the Criminal Assets Bureau to seize profits similar to the action faced by Mr Kennedy in relation to Carrickmines.
Mr Dunlop said there had not been a discussion about this and Mr O'Callaghan remains a friend of his.
He said he had called in payments for a success fee from Mr O'Callaghan to make a tax settlement of £240,000 when the tribunal began investigations of him in 1998.
He told the court he received payments totalling £300,000 for legal fees.
In answer to Mr O'Higgins, he denied that he was treating Mr O'Callaghan, a premier league developer, like an "idiot abroad".
Mr Dunlop has testified that Mr Kennedy gave him £25,000 in 1991 to bribe four councillors to vote for rezoning at Carrickmines.
He told the trial he gave Liam Cosgrave, 57, with an address at Blackrock, Co Dublin a total of £7,000 for the two Carrickmines votes.
He said independent councillor (formerly of Fianna Fáil) Tony Fox, 72, of Churchtown, Dublin also got £7,000 for both votes.
Mr Dunlop gave evidence that Former Fianna Fáil councillor Colm McGrath, 56, of Saggart, Co Dublin received £2,000 for the first vote, while Former Fianna Fáil Senator and then councillor Don Lydon, 74, with an address in Stillorgan, Co Dublin got £3,000 for the first vote.
All four men deny the charges.
Mr Kennedy, 66, with an address at Queens Way, Gibraltar has also pleaded not guilty.
