Two hundred gardaí will be deployed to ensure that this summer's concerts at the Phoenix Park pass off without incident.

Last year's Swedish House Mafia concert was marred by a number of knife crimes, and two men who had attended the event later died of suspected drug overdoses.

Gardaí say they have been working with promoters Festival Republic, who are working on behalf of MCD, to ensure there is a robust package of measures in place.

Resources will be concentrated in areas outside the park that residents had expressed most concerns about.

Gardaí said there will be a very low tolerance of drinking and search procedures will be in place at the entrance to the park.

Alcohol will be confiscated and anyone found lying around or urinating in public areas will be moved on.

There will be facilities inside the concert to purchase alcohol.

Last year's Swedish House Mafia concert was policed by 160 gardaí.
