Three fishermen have been rescued from a boat that had been taking on water off Fanad lighthouse in north Donegal.

In a rescue operation coordinated by Malin Coastguard, the men were brought ashore before their vessel sank.

The Lough Swilly lifeboat base launched two lifeboats, but the men, who are all from the Inishowen area of Donegal, were picked up by another local fishing vessel.

The Lough Swilly crew administered minor first aid and oxygen to the men who had been brought to Leenan Pier.

The Coastguard helicopter based in Sligo was also tasked to the scene and flew the men to Letterkenny General Hospital.

It is understood the men are not in a serious condition.
