Mobility allowance and motorised transport payments will continue to be made, pending the establishment of new schemes.

The Government decided to end the payments after the Ombudsman ruled the schemes were illegal.

A review group was asked to devise a new system, to be ready by the end of this month.

The Government has now decided to set up an inter-departmental group to make detailed recommendations on how the new scheme should operate.

In the interim, the Health Service Executive will continue to make payments under the existing system, until the new scheme can operate.
