Minister for Children and Youth Affairs Frances Fitzgerald has said she believes a new organisation being set up to represent childcare professionals will be effective in bringing about higher standards.
The Association of Childcare Professionals hopes to represent over 22,000 childcare professionals across the country.
It wants the Government to support the sector and provide the necessary resources.
At the launch, Minister Fitzgerald said the Government is committed to reform of the childcare sector.
Ms Fitzgerald said childcare should be a "calling and not a cash cow".
