Three men in their 20s are being treated in hospital after they were rescued from the sea at Audley Cove near Ballydehob in west Cork.

The alarm was raised just before 5pm by a member of the public who heard the three shouting for help from the sea.

Two lifeboats from Baltimore, a coastguard helicopter from Shannon and local coastguard teams were among those who responded.

The men are believed to have been in a small dinghy, which capsized.

They got into difficulties as they attempted to swim back to the shore.

Two of the men were rescued by the crew of Baltimore Lifeboat.

The third was rescued by a kayaker.

All three were airlifted to Cork Airport by the coastguard helicopter and transferred to hospital by ambulance.

The men are from the Skibbereen and Ballydehob areas.
