At least five people have been killed after a bus crashed through guardrails and ended up under an elevated motorway near the Belgian city of Antwerp.

Five other people are said to have been critically injured, while seven more are being treated for minor injuries.

The Polish group was taking mostly Russian teenagers aged between 15 and 17 from Volgograd and was heading towards Paris when the accident happened.

Three teenagers, the bus driver and another adult were killed in the crash near Ranst.

No other vehicles were involved.

A spokesman said 42 people were on the bus at the time of the accident, mainly teenagers and a few in their early 20s.
