Eleven candidates are to contest the Meath East by-election on 27 March.

The by-election follows the death of Shane McEntee TD last December.

The deadline for nominations was earlier today and candidates have until 12pm tomorrow if they wish to withdraw their nomination.

The candidates are: Fianna Fáil Senator Thomas Byrne; Ben Gilroy of Direct Democracy Ireland; Labour Cllr Eoin Holmes; Charlie Keddy (non-party); Mick Martin (non-party), Seamus McDonagh of The Workers’ Party; Fine Gael's Helen McEntee; Gearoid O'Brien; Sean O'Buachalla of the Green Party; Darren O'Rourke of Sinn Féin, and Jim Tallon (non-party).
