Birds Eye is recalling beef products produced by a Belgian company after one of its ready meals tested positive for horse DNA.

In a statement, Birds Eye said tests on Chilli Con Carne, produced by Frigilunch and sold in Belgium, had 2% horse DNA.

It said as a precautionary measure it is withdrawing all other products produced by the same supplier – Traditional Spaghetti Bolognese 340g, Shepherd's Pie 400g and Beef Lasagne 400g – in the UK and Ireland.

Tests on all Birds Eye beef burgers, beef pies and beef platters did not contain horse DNA.
