The ALONE charity, which provides support to older people in need, has said demand for its services increased by 25% last year.

Its chief executive Sean Moynihan said the majority of those who get in contact do so because of housing difficulties.

The charity provides accommodation for around 100 older people in the greater Dublin area.

As a result of the increased demand, the charity said its resources are fully stretched.
