Gardaí have confirmed that a man in his late sixties was found on the side of a road near Ballinamore in Co Leitrim last night.
The man was taken to Mullingar General Hospital for treatment and is still a patient there.
Gardaí say they are investigating the incident.
RTÉ News understands that the man was reported missing some months ago.
He is not from the area and was found by a passerby to whom he was able to speak but who got the impression the man was disoriented.
