An international competition to find a unique image of modern Dublin has had its deadline extended by nearly a month because of a huge response.

Over 1,000 entries have already been received for the Uniquely Dublin competition.

It is open to anyone who wants to send in a photo, artwork or piece of writing for a top prize of €10,000.

The city council organised the event in an effort to find an image that sums up modern Dublin.

The event is part of a rebranding and promotion that will be launched last this year.

A YouTube hit "Just Saying" is one film entry but there are other categories in animation, visual arts, music, graphics, photography and the written word.

A judging panel will draw up a shortlist after the deadline of 25 February and pick category winners for a €1,000 prize.

A public vote will select the overall winner for the €10,000.

Simon O'Connor of The Little Museum, which will host an exhibition of entries, says that a mobile phone picture or simple text message could win it.

He also says people can enter as often as they like.
