Members of the public have been recognised for life-saving at the Irish Water Safety awards in Dublin.

The actions of 26 people prevented the drowning of 36 others who got into difficulty.

Around 150 people die from drowning in Ireland each year. Most of these tragic deaths happen inland, in rivers and lakes, on farms and in and around homes.

Safety campaigners say many of those deaths are preventable.

Irish Water Safety urged all adults to become more aware of the dangers in and around water.
