Hundreds of people gathered on O'Connell Street in Dublin to see the Lord Mayor, Naoise Ó Muirí, turn on the Christmas tree lights.
This year sees the return of the traditional Christmas tree.
It replaces a glass "eco-friendly" Christmas tree that had been in place since 2008.
The artificial tree is being moved to Smithfield this year.
