An organisation representing emergency service workers has called for legislation to improve the protection of fire and ambulance personnel from assaults.
It comes ahead of the busiest night of the year for the fire and ambulance services all over the country.
The Irish Fire and Emergency Services Association said some of its members will probably face assault and injury tonight.
