Gardaí are investigating if a fire at a bus depot in Thurles, Co Tipperary, was started maliciously.

A number of disused buses caught fire at the Bus Éireann maintenance depot at Abbey Road this afternoon.

It is understood a blaze broke out in one of the old buses, and then spread to three other vehicles at around 2.30pm.

The buses are out of commission and are stored in the yard before being used for parts or scrap.

Earlier this year, two out-of-service buses were set on fire at the same depot.
