Number of E coli cases from Belfast restaurant doubles

The number of confirmed cases of E coli linked to a north Belfast restaurant has almost doubled in the past 24 hours.

Northern Ireland's Public Health Agency has said there were now 90 confirmed cases and 179 probable ones.

The outbreak has been linked to Flicks Restaurant in Belfast's Cityside shopping complex and has been described as the worst ever seen in Northern Ireland.

The restaurants management has voluntarily closed the premises and is co-operating with the PHA and environmental health officers from Belfast City Council.

Yesterday the PHA said the strain of E coli that has been found this month is not the same as the one linked to four cases relating to Flicks Restaurant from August.
