Minister for Enterprise Richard Bruton has said that the Government does not concentrate on poll results, but on delivering the changes necessary for the economy.

He was responding to the latest Ipsos/MRBI poll, which showed satisfaction with the Government down six points to 21%.

Mr Bruton said governing "is not a bed of roses", difficult decisions had to be taken and awkward changes implemented.

He said the Government has been given a job to fix the economy.

Mr Bruton said that he believed the public will "recognise the quality of what we do if we deliver the goods".

Speaking in Romania, where he is attending the congress of the European People's Party, he said that the Taoiseach will be maintaining the political pressure behind a deal on Ireland's bank debt at today's summit in Brussels.

He said Finance Minister Michael Noonan is continuing to work on the technical details and had made clear that he was not setting a timeline for a deal.
