Around 40 workers protested outside Bord Na Móna's headquarters in Newbridge, Co Kildare this morning.
The protest took place as Minister for Energy and Natural Resources Pat Rabbitte met the board on a day when it was scheduled to discuss the extension of the Chief Executive's contract.
Workers at the protest said they also expected three worker directors to table a motion of no confidence in Chief Executive Gabriel D'Arcy at today's meeting.
"We are not blaming the chief executive about the weather, but the capping of targets over a successive number of years means we don't have enough stocks," one worker said.
"If it's a bad summer next summer then we are in serious trouble in relation to our existence," he said in relation to a shortage of peat stocks.
Protesters say the capping of targets was essential a cost reduction measure.
They are also unhappy about what they claim was the "imposition" of three-day week for some staff.
Bord na Móna said it was disappointed that the protest had taken place.
It said: "Nevertheless, the company appreciates that the vast majority of employees understand that these measures are vital to reduce the financial burden, preserve employment and ensure continued profitability."
