Following the agreement on a date for a referendum on Scottish independence in 2014, Sinn Féin has asked Taoiseach Enda Kenny to begin discussions on a united Ireland.
During Leaders' Questions, Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams asked Mr Kenny about the terms of the Good Friday Agreement which provide for a poll on the issue.
He asked the Taoiseach if he would begin a dialogue on the subject among those in favour of and against a united Ireland.
Mr Adams asked if Mr Kenny would come back to the Dáil with an outline of how he would envisage securing the full implementation of the Good Friday Agreement on the poll.
The Taoiseach said his priority was to rectify the public finances and to work with the EU to come out of the bailout programme.
He said we could then decide in a more individual way what our future should be.
