A string of car bomb blasts targeting mainly police checkpoints killed at least 32 people across Iraq.

The deadliest attack came in the town of Taji, just north of Baghdad, where three explosive-rigged cars went off within minutes of each other.

Police said eight people died and 28 were injured in the blasts that began at around 7.15am.

In all, at least 94 people were wounded in the wave of attacks that stretched from Kirkuk in Iraq's north to the southern Shia town of Kut.

There have been no claims of responsibility for the attacks.
