Argos seeks over 600 Christmas workers, Dundalk to get jobs boost from pet product firm

Argos is looking for 670 people to work in its shops across Ireland in the run-up to Christmas to support its existing shop staff.

The roles are for up to three months with opportunities to extend to four months.

Argos employs about 1,500 people around its 40 shops in Ireland.

Elsewhere, Minister for Jobs Richard Bruton has announced the opening of a new European head office in Dundalk by global pet product innovator and manufacturer Radio Systems Corporation.

The move will result in the creation of 56 new jobs over the next three years. The investment is supported by IDA Ireland.

The company said its Radio Systems PetSafe Europe division will base its European multilingual customer services centre, finance, order management, supply chain and human resources departments in Dundalk.

Of the 56 jobs being created over the next three years, 25 will be hired by the end of December, the company said.

The company is the industry leader in pet containment systems, training systems and bark control solutions.

It introduced the first do-it-yourself electronic fence to the pet market in 1991 and the first wireless fence in 1998.

"A key part of the Government's plan for jobs and growth is deepening and developing the impact of multinational companies here, particularly in regional locations," Mr Bruton said.

He said today’s announcement "is great news and marks another good investment for the northeast."

"By continued implementation of the Action Plan for Jobs we can accelerate the transition currently underway in the economy and create the jobs and growth we need", he added.
