A navigation warning has been issued to ships off the south west coast, as an operation to recover a number of drifting containers continues.

The Irish Coast Guard has confirmed that a search is ongoing for five containers, three of which are bolted together.

They all fell from a burning chemical German cargo vessel MSC Flaminia on 14 July.

The vessel was 1,600km from Ireland when an explosion followed by a fire occurred on board.

All crew were forced to abandon ship and the vessel has since been towed to a German port.

The Irish Coastguard says all the containers were empty and pose no chemical hazard.
