The protest by Lagan Brick workers in Cavan is to end after they voted to accept a redundancy offer from management.

The workers have been staging a round-the-clock protest outside the gates of the factory in Kingscourt for the last 272 days.

The workers expect to get all their money within six weeks.

SIPTU's John Regan said the protest was worth it for the workers, as they had secured a better deal than had been previously put forward by the company.

He said: "The last set of proposals that the guys voted on didn't come up to the standard of what it is today and what they voted on last night ... there has been an absolute improvement in their terms."
