The Irish Paralympic team arrived to a rapturous welcome at Dublin Airport from the 2012 Paralympic Games in London with a total of 16 medals.

The games ended last night with a spectacular closing ceremony in front of a stadium audience of more than 80,000 people.

Ireland's Paralympians won eight gold, three silver and five bronze medals.

Around 1,000 people gathered in the airport's arrivals area to welcome the team home.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny will host a reception for the team at Farmleigh on Friday.

They will be honoured by President Michael D Higgins at Áras an Uachtaráin next month.
