A post mortem examination is due to be carried out tomorrow on the body of an eight-year-old boy who was found dead at his home in north Cork this morning.
Gardaí say they are treating the boy's death as a tragedy.
He has been named as Anthony Ward, of Harrison's Place, Charleville.
It is understood investigating gardaí believe the boy did not die of natural causes. He is believed to have died during the night.
His mother Diane Ward was in a distressed state when gardaí were called to the house shortly after 9am.
She is being treated in hospital.
Assistant State Pathologist Dr Margaret Bolster visited the scene this afternoon, as gardaí began a technical examination at the house.
