Up to 16 jobs are to go in Blanchardstown after Clerys announced it is to close its home furnishing shop in September.

The retailer said the outlet, which is in Blanchardstown Shopping Centre, had incurred “significant losses since the beginning of the recession” and would close on 16 September.

SIPTU’s Graham Macken said the announcement has come as a shock to workers at the store and called for an immediate meeting with management to discuss the closure.

He said the union hoped to discuss the possibility of saving some of the jobs as well as redundancy terms for those being let go.

Clerys Department Store also operates shops in Dublin city centre, Leopardstown and Naas, Co Kildare and the company said all of these will continue to operate as normal.
