The Burlington Hotel has been put up for sale with a guide price of €65m-€75m, around a quarter of what businessman Bernard McNamara paid for it five years ago.
It was at the centre of one of the most expensive land deals during the boom years when bought for €288m in 2007.
Mr McNamara planned to demolish it, but it is being sold by receiver Grant Thornton who was appointed by Lloyds Bank.
The hotel contains 500 bedrooms, banqueting space for 2,000 people, two bars and two restaurants.
The estate agents say it is a rare and unique opportunity to acquire one of Dublin’s best-known and important hotels.
