The Navy detained an Irish registered fishing vessel off the coast of Cork overnight.

The vessel was detained some 50 nautical miles south of Ballycotton over alleged breaches of technical fishing regulations.

It was brought under escort by the LÉ Niamh to Cork and was to be handed over to gardaí.

The Naval Service has carried out 1,006 boardings, issued 38 warnings and detained 13 vessels so far in 2012.
